Americo Paredes was a talented, intelligent, and folklorist that is known as one of the seminal Mexican American scholars of the 20th century. The native Texan took his Mexican heritage and shared it with the public through his work. His studies of corridos, folkloric ballads, machismo, and border stereotypes of Mexicanos formed the basis of a whole school of southwestern folklore most os whose investigators he trained. Because he experienced anti-Mexican discrimination and racsim first-hand, Paredes used the experience as influence.
